Watching the Watch Dogs

Watching the Watch Dogs

In all the hubris of E3 there seemed to be a running theme. Aside from the copious numbers of bow and arrow action, many of the stuff shown had been very safe, very comfortable. That is until the end of Ubisoft’s presentation…

Far Cry 3 – E3 Teaser

Far Cry 3 – E3 Teaser

I oft find myself decrying the use of announcements of announcements, and teaser trailers for game reveals. They seem so pointless…but then there is this Far Cry 3 trailer designed to build the anticipation for the Ubisoft press conference at E3, a trailer which in itself is brilliant and underlines why I think the game is going to be an all out smash. We are told we will ‘Experience the new reveal’ at E3 next week, I hope it matches the madness on offer in this tease.

Assassin’s Creed 3 Debut Trailer

Assassin’s Creed 3 Debut Trailer

We all knew the basics of Assassin’s Creed 3 last week, but with this debut trailer we now have some action of the game that is going to be set in 18th Century North America. Assassin’s Creed 3 will put you in the boots of Ratohnaké:ton, an assassin of Native American and English heritage who goes by the easier to pronounce name of Connor.

The fifth main release in the series is going to use the all new Ubisoft-AnvilNext game engine and has twice the production values of any other Ubisoft title.

The game is locked in for release on the 31st of October this year for release on PC, 360 and PS3. A WiiU version is also in development.

Far Cry 3 – All New Trailer

Far Cry 3 – All New Trailer

If I might say so myself, Far Cry 3 is looking quite splendid, and this brand new trailer only goes to show off what is going to be a personal must buy title when it is released this September. This new trailer shows the arrival of leading man Jason Brody to the tropical island that is the setting for the game and his initial interactions with the key antagonist, Vaas. Are you a Far Cry lover or hater?

Ubisoft DRM ‘Always On’. Their games – less so.

Ubisoft DRM ‘Always On’. Their games – less so.

Ubisoft’s ‘Always-On’ DRM has been a contentious subject since its first introduction. But in a recent stroke of genius picked up by Eurogamer, Ubisoft have announced that next week a number of their titles which require an always-on internet connection will be completely unavailable to their paying customers.

The Settlers Online Beta – First Impressions

The Settlers Online Beta – First Impressions

Having not played a Settlers game for a good 10 or so years I was surprised and excited to see that there was an online version in development by Ubisoft and had to get into the beta to see what it was all about. See my thoughts and reactions after the jump.

Rayman Origins – The Verdict

Rayman Origins – The Verdict

In 1995, when the PlayStation was released and the gaming world was marvelling at the possibilities it held, 2D platforming looked like a doomed genre. Developers were working frantically on how to perfect a 3D platforming game and both Crash Bandicoot and Super Mario 64 were on the horizon.

2D platforming needed a hero and they got one – a guy with no limbs and a face that was two-thirds nose. His name was Rayman and his début game went on to be the biggest selling on the PlayStation. He then starred in a couple of mediocre sequels before the franchise spiralled out of control and spawned the Rabbids. Since then Rayman fell on hard times, shoved to the sidelines by the obnoxious Rabbids that were once his sidekicks.

Rayman Origins is a nod to the days when Rayman was on top of the world; it’s a lovably nostalgic blast back to the glory days of 2D platformers.
