Assassin’s Creed Revelations – The Verdict

Assassin’s Creed Revelations – The Verdict

Assassin’s Creed Revelations is precisely the kind of product that makes you question if it’s worth reviewing game sequels. Even though the asking price troubles the comparison, intentionally missing out on playing Revelations would be like missing out on the latest episode of a TV drama – you’re only not going to play this game if you’re planning to rage quit on the entire series. And aside from a somewhat lacking sense of forward momentum in the series right now…

Trackmania 2: The Verdict

Trackmania 2: The Verdict

“If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” is a motto that divides game developers. Do they keep what works well for them and seems to be a winning formula at the risk of becoming stale? Or do they change things up and risk alienating the fans that made their first game successful in the first place? It’s clearly a dilemma that Nadeo, creators of the immensely popular Trackmania series faced when bringing out Trackmania 2.

Driver: San Francisco – The Verdict

Driver: San Francisco – The Verdict

I’ll admit, I didn’t have high hopes for Driver: San Francisco After the two most recent games in the series generally received as ‘mediocre’ and having never really gotten into the PSX-era games personally, the series wasn’t high on my radar. Joyfully, I’m pleased to say that the newest Driver game has proven me wrong in the best possible way.

Call of Juarez: The Cartel – The Verdict

Call of Juarez: The Cartel – The Verdict

You have to wonder if the voice actors for the latest instalment of the Call of Juarez franchise were paid in the form of a swear jar. If that was the case, the cast would likely be millionaires by now. Sadly, this is just the hairline fracture on a title that suffers from multiple flaws throughout a game that frankly brings down the series to a standard that the franchise just doesn’t deserve.

I want to be God

I want to be God

From Dust, Eric Chahi’s return to game design has seen the revival of the so-called ‘god game’. But with large sections of the game dedicated to more of a caretaker role, what if instead of these single-minded approximations of god, we had a true God Sim?

From Dust – The Verdict

From Dust – The Verdict

A game that wears its influences proudly on its sleeve, From Dust is the brainchild of Another World creator Eric Chahi. Playing as an unseen force known as The Breath you’re tasked with ensuring that the primitive tribesmen of the world manage to survive and thrive against the challenges of an unforgiving world. But behind an initially impressive concept and outward appearance, some cracks appear behind these relatively solid foundations.

Far Cry 3 – Alternative E3 Trailer

Far Cry 3 – Alternative E3 Trailer

Far Cry 3 received a bloody good showing at E3, while it failed to match Battlefield 3 in my eyes, it received a very strong showing. Ubisoft obviously wanted to show off more and in the trailer below, you can see their alternative take on the original E3 showing.

The Reticule (Not Quite At) E3 – Ubisoft Conference

And now onto Ubisoft. Home to fitness games, Rayman and Tom Clancy. We’re expecting to see some appearances from Maniaplanet (that’s Trackmania 2, Questmania and Shootmania) – almost certainly more from Ghost Recon Future Solider and Online and as ever, a few things we’re not sure about yet. Let’s kick back and brace ourselves for another round of commentary and announcements from E3 2011:

Splinter Cell: Conviction – The Verdict

Splinter Cell: Conviction – The Verdict

Malta. It’s not a big country, but it has a lot of people. Tourists, citizens, scum and saint, Malta is full of them. With that in mind, it’s one of the best places in the world to disappear. You don’t “blend in” in Malta, it devours you whole. Just what I was looking for.
