The crew of the Adventure Time have a bit of a problem.
Their mission was fairly straightforward – land on an unexplored alien world, find a missing unmanned probe and bring it back to its rightful owners for a large wad of space-cash. What could possibly go wrong?
I’ve been playing the new MOBA ‘Dragons and Titans‘ by PlanOfAttack, and here’s what I think.
It’s not as good as DOTA.
Now that’s out the way we can look at the title in more detail. You play a dragon rider of sorts who’s tasked with protecting a village from various types of attack.
I was saved from scrambling to come up with an introduction with the announcement of Civilization: Beyond Earth which is coming this ‘Fall’ according to the American terminology. The spiritual successor to Alpha Centauri, perhaps the most highly praised 4X game is sure to attract a lot of attention before release, and fortunately PC Gamer have a massive interview with the team covering factions, the planet and more. The team behind Euro Truck Simulator 2 have been busy recently working on update 1.9 and some new Mercedes trucks. More enticingly, they have been working quietly on American Truck Simulator and this weekend revealed a few early images from the game.

Zork. TerraFirmA. Nethack. The kind of games that conjure up memories of squinting at “@” symbols convincing yourself it was a rat, or possibly an ogre. I spent a fair amount of time within their strangely compelling grasp in my younger days, and more recently thanks to the madness of Dwarf Fortress. SanctuaryRPG is not like these games. It is an RPG, and its visuals are all ASCII code, smooshed together to look like mountains and monsters and silver keys….
I don’t know where the time has got to this week, it is already Friday and I realise that I’ve entirely neglected to write about some fairly cool indie game news that has appeared in the past few days. This isn’t quite a Crowdfunding Weekly, even though one game has just landed itself on Kickstarter, rather a just a quick rundown on a handful of indie games of all flavours. Hit the break for word on Death in Candlewood, Warside and Divinity: Original Sin.
Frozen Endzone is a simple game. You have a team of players. They have a team of players. You both have endzones. There is one ball. All you have to do is get the ball from one end of the pitch to the other, throwing, passing, tackling, and generally ensuring that the other team doesn’t get their dirty mitts on your precious ball. It’s a simple team-based ball game, just like your school used to make you play (with 200% less mud).
As always, there is just one little catch.
With so many indie developers and so much opportunity these days to fund your project in various ways, it’s important to stick out amongst the crowd, have some individuality and above all provide a pitch that shows quality and professionalism, so for this weeks pick I have been looking for just that. Admittedly I have already been following three of these games through development but the others show just as much promise.
That’s right ladies and gentlemen, the 2014 Trailer of the Year award has been issued early this year. You can all pack up and stop making trailers for the rest of the year because quite frankly there is absolutely no way anyone can top Coffee Stain Studios’ beautiful, evocative riff on 2011’s Dead Island trailer.
