For anyone out there who thinks Valve are the almighty untouchable company thanks to their efforts with Steam, I urge you to take a step back and think things over for a minute. I for one would be thinking about Greenlight, Develop recently reported on a meeting between Greenlight developers and Valve where the lack of visibility of the service was brought up. That isn’t the only trouble though as today some more unsavoury news came to light.
Update Valve’s Doug Lombardi has responded, read after the break.
Toki Tori 2 has quietly been in development for quite some time now and with good reason. Two Tribes made the decision that this would be the first game in a decade that would be entirely without the pressures of having a publisher. Instead of being dogged down by release dates Two Tribes took “as long as necessary to really make it shine”.
Remember Age of Empires 2? It’s only the game that first introduced me and countless others to the RTS genre and defined the first few years of my PC gaming life. Well it’s back and will be exclusively available on Steam in its updated HD format.
Slow-burn underground hit, European Truck Simulator 2, still sitting in the Top 20 sellers on Steam is going to be receiving an Eastern European themed DLC pack in the coming months. The map expansion will have a strong focus on Poland, a country in which developers SCS Software have seen great success and support.
The team at SCS have released a bunch of early images of some of the cities that will feature in the expansion, and they look a lot more detailed than the locations that can be explored in the base game. You can check the out, along with a map of the expanded road network after the break.
There are many games on Steam Greenlight that I really should be playing, more than I have time for, but earlier today I took the time to have a quick blast with a fast-paced platformer which uses the beats of your own music to alter levels as you play. The name of the game?
It seems that The Federation Of German Consumers Association (VZBV) have taken issue with some of the terms of Valve’s popular gaming software, Steam. They believe it unfair that consumers who buy games via the software are unable to resell or give them away after use.
Another week on and I’m still going strong, must be some kind of record for me. I recently discovered Backloggery, a super handy website which allows you to list and organise your backlog of games into neat little piles. I definitely recommend this to anyone who has problems keeping on top of their backlog of games.
All this time spent with a controller in my hand, my Steam backlog has been slowly mounting up to the stage where it’s getting ridiculous and I’ve decided to make a stand. So for the next month I will don the suit, learn the secret handshake and take my place as a PC gamer. Any time I would usually put aside for gaming will be spent tackling my Steam backlog and these articles will be documenting the highs and lows of my experience.
Great news arrives from Steam as Euro Truck Simulator 2 has finally arrived on the store for the introductory price of £22.49, a 10% saving on the standard £24.99 price. The trucking game is also sitting top of the Top Sellers list on Steam, a great achievement for such a niche product. If you bought the game at retail, you can also activate your retail CD Key on Steam to access the title through Valve’s network. As ever, it is great to see titles from Greenlight appearing for sale on Steam.
