EA Have No Plans To Bring Women’s Football To FIFA

Following the success of women’s football at the Olympics, a petition was started to ask EA to include women into the massively successful FIFA franchise. While the petition is starting to gather pace with over 3,000 signatures, EA don’t have any plans to introduce female players into the series at the moment.

Speaking to CVG, FIFA Executive Producer David Rutter said:

“We get literally thousands upon thousands of suggestions from our fans for new features and we have to evaluate those suggestions, such as the inclusion of female players in the game, against our resources, priorities and overall fan feedback. At present, we don’t have plans to include female players in the game.”

This is a great shame, an article in The Times today revealed that women’s football is the third largest participation sport in Britain, and the petition reveals that the US Department of State says that over 40% of football players in the US are female.

I personally would love to see women being represented to a much greater extent in sports games than they are right now. I was especially disappointed that the official game of the Olympics had such an inherent bias towards male athletes with only a minority of sports playable as a female athlete.
