Despite the appeal of the 3D effect of Nintendo’s latest handheld, I’ve found myself falling for one of the 3DS family’s lesser-known innovations – Streetpass, the Wi-Fi handshake that two 3DS users have in general proximity. From a manufacturer known for being a little behind the curve on all things online, it’s a welcome differentiator. A light, low-maintenance social dimension, a way of showing off your best times or the layout of your in-game home, or just expressing something about yourself to other passers by.

Following the success of women’s football at the Olympics, a petition was started to ask EA to include women into the massively successful FIFA franchise. While the petition is starting to gather pace with over 3,000 signatures, EA don’t have any plans to introduce female players into the series at the moment. …
The bi-annual tournament release of FIFA is with us once more with UEFA EURO 2012, but unlike previous World Cup and European Championship releases from EA, this edition has been released as DLC rather than a full retail release. At a price point of £15 the big question is, is it worth it? Hit the jump for the verdict. …
EA are known for releasing special tournament editions of FIFA when the World Cup and European Championships come around, but they are normally released at retail at a similar price point to the main FIFA titles. That isn’t happening this year as UEFA EURO 2012 is going to be released as a digital download for FIFA 12 at a price point of £15.99 on the PSN, 1800 MS Points and 2500 FIFA points on PC. The EURO 2012 expansion will feature all 53 UEFA member countries, so hopefully Wales will make an appearance. There will be qualification tournaments, an all new Expedition Mode and more. All I can say is that I am pleased to see this isn’t getting a full price retail release, these releases never seem worth it.
