Our Week in Games – Week 61

Our Week in Games – Week 61

Another week gone and news emerges from a key PC component manufacturer which looks set to shake the business up and firmly ensure the PC is home of the future of gaming. Three weeks ago saw AMD talk about their Mantle API which will entirely replace DirectX. This week sees Nvidia reveal G-Sync which is promised to entirely stop the screen-tear effect many games can be plagued with.

That is some of the big tech news, but what have we seen in Our Week in Games?

Eurogamer Expo – The Indies

Eurogamer Expo – The Indies

Indie developers are great, they are often so approachable and friendly. The games they make are part of the sea change that is sweeping through the industry. The old AA game space all has been all but obliterated and indie titles are taking up the mantle with growing support from the big boys, especially Sony as Shahid Ahmad talked about on day two of the Expo. I didn’t get to spend as much time in the indie section during my time at the Expo as I would have liked, but there were a few gems down there.

Our Week in Games – Week 59

Last Sunday was Day 4 of the Eurogamer Expo, but I only managed to get an hour at the show which explains why there wasn’t a lowdown on Sunday night. There really wasn’t much to provide a lowdown on. It is another Sunday though and that means one thing…Our Week in Games.

Eurogamer Expo – Viiiiiiiiiiiitaaaaaaa!

Eurogamer Expo – Viiiiiiiiiiiitaaaaaaa!

Earlier this year I sold my PlayStation Vita to a friend at work. I reasoned that I wasn’t playing it at all, the money would come in handy and it would be better off with someone who might use it. After having digested some of what I saw at the Eurogamer Expo, I can safely say that I will be looking to buy a Vita again quite soon.

Our Week In Games – Week 58

Our Week In Games – Week 58

It’s been an interesting week, all things considered – Steam has gone from happily sitting upstairs on your desktop PC to charging into the living room and demanding your full attention. Short on space, I’ve been running the whole ‘PC under the TV’ thing for almost a month, so Valve announcing their amazing new Steam Machines was a bit of an anti-climax for me. I am still however curious about their rather odd-looking controller, which seems to finally be looking towards making controller-based gaming a little more palatable for PC users.
But what have we been playing this past seven days? Let’s take a look.

Eurogamer Expo Day Three – The Lowdown

Eurogamer Expo Day Three – The Lowdown

As I write this report on Day Three at the Expo, I realise that the morning has faded away into a blur and I find myself extremely thankful for the notes I made on my tablet this morning. I don’t think I would have remembered what happened without those notes.

Eurogamer Expo Day Two – The Lowdown

Eurogamer Expo Day Two – The Lowdown

I took the executive decision to stay in my hotel room until 11am and therefore skip the inevitable massive queue that would have been present if I had gone early. As such I was able to walk straight in to Day Two of the Expo without getting stuck in the usual massive queue.

SteamOS – What We Think

SteamOS – What We Think

After Valve decided to unveil the SteamOS we here at The Reticule Towers thought we would come together and share our thoughts on this, the first of Valve’s three announcements planned for this week. We might also muse on what else they might reveal. We are pleased to welcome back previous, and most excellent, writer Steph Woor for a one-off piece of opinion sharing. Hit the break to read our thoughts.

Our Week in Games – Week 58

We are less than a week away from the Eurogamer Expo at Earl’s Court in London, and I will be making the trip down there with the aim of getting some time with the PS4 and Xbox One…though I will probably give up on the queues and just play some indie games. It should be fun at least! Let’s take a look at what has gone down in the past week in Our Week in Games.
