Dishonored – New Screens Galore

Dishonored – New Screens Galore

A host of new screen have been released today showing off Arkane Studios’ Dishonored, a title which I’ve been quietly keeping tabs on since I saw the first concept art emerge last year. The game is set in an industrial whaling city with a mix of high technology and mysticism known as Dunwall. You will play as a supernatural assassin in Dishonored and there is promised to be a very flexible combat system which will allow you to mix stealth, supernatural powers and brute force to achieve your goals.

The world has been created by Half-Life 2 art director Viktor Antonov, and the visual similarities with City 17 are subtle but noticeable. I also get a sense of inspiration from Fable III in some of the screen shots, maybe that is just me though. Mass Effect 3 – The Verdict

Mass Effect 3 – The Verdict

The first choice for me was one of great importance. It could mean the difference between life and death, the destruction of a whole civilisation or the lives of my crew members. At least that’s how important it felt. The decision of course was whether I wanted to keep the original Shepard on the front cover of my Mass Effect 3 box or flip over to the rather sleek looking reversible FemShep cover on the other side. I may come…

Mass Effect 3 Hits UK Number 1 Spot – A Sign of Trouble for GAME?

Mass Effect 3 Hits UK Number 1 Spot – A Sign of Trouble for GAME?

sf

Mass Effect 3 has made an immediate impact on the UK all formats chart hitting the top spot according to Chart-Track, and it has done it in style. The release is the best selling chart topping game so far this year and has even outperformed the sales of the first two games in the series, combined.

This is all in light of GAME and GameStation not stocking the game in any way, with the immediate success of Mass Effect 3 proving that a traditional retail storefront is not essential for big games to sell well. The strong performance echoes EA chief, John Riccitiello’s comments to MCV where he said, without mentioning GAME explicitly “If one goes away, the other guys pick up the slack. I really don’t see it as anything other than a very temporary dislocation.” If Mass Effect 3 can sell so well without GAME, you really have to wonder whether a specialist games retailer is needed on the highstreet.

In related news, GAME have hired Rothschild help find a buyer. GAME Group currently has a share price of 1.55p and was a low as 0.5p earlier today.

Mass Effect 3 – Our Thoughts

Mass Effect 3 – Our Thoughts

Even though planning your latest IP as a trilogy has been a fashionable thing to do during this console generation, Mass Effect 3 is a game that has truly been anticipated by some for the best part of half a decade. Despite of the needlessly late release of Mass Effect 3, many of the team have spent this weekend picking up where they left off, with the characters and choices they’ve carried forward from the two preceding games. Here are their thoughts and first…

A Bit Behind The Times – Mass Effect From The Start

A Bit Behind The Times – Mass Effect From The Start

I am just a little bit behind the times, everyone is raving about Mass Effect 3 (look out for our initial thoughts soon) but I have never played any of the games in the series. I thought it was time to change that and get stuck into the very first Mass Effect.

Tribes: Ascend Trailer Takes the Michael

Tribes: Ascend Trailer Takes the Michael

Don’t you just love it when a game trailer brazenly takes the mickey of a previous well regarded trailer? Well I do as this trailer for Tribes: Ascend does a good job of lampooning the famous Dead Island video. Of more importance, Tribes: Ascend is out April 12th, anyone been playing the beta and got any thoughts on it so far?

GAME Group Nearing the Brink

GAME Group Nearing the Brink

The recent escalation of issues at leading UK games retailer GAME Group are nearing a head with reports emerging this afternoon that senior management are bracing themselves for the group to enter administration. GAME Group, which runs GAME and GameStation stores up and down the country, has had several big blows recently with the inability to stock Mass Effect 3 for today’s launch the most striking for gamers. There is currently a massive sale now on at GAME on new releases, pre-owned titles and hardware, part of an attempt to generate some cash flow with administration possibly on a couple of weeks away.

It is difficult to see a way back know for the company unless a takeover package is put together by US giant GameStop, if that fails to materialise we could be witnessing the death of a key player in the British games industry. Best of luck to all involved.
