#1ReasonWhy and Why Women Matter

#1ReasonWhy and Why Women Matter

The past two days have seen something incredible. Hundreds of women games developers, journalists and culture commentators have poured out their anxieties, passion for their craft and how there are some in the industry and culture who make them think about leaving it all behind.

The First Person Shooter – I’m Bored Now

The First Person Shooter – I’m Bored Now

A large gun, and an area full of people in front of me. In any other genre, there may be some hope of conversation, perhaps a spot of exploring, even. But no, this is a first-person-shooter and all must die. Hesitate, and you either die, riddled with bullets and with a screen full of jam, or the game simply shouts at you and forces a restart regardless.

This isn’t a problem, financially, for many developers and publishers. This is the norm; this is what people expect from a modern FPS and if it wasn’t full-on, balls-to-the-wall bullet-action, fans would be disappointed. Provided it has a pedigree – Call of Duty, Halo, or any number of yearly spin-offs – it will make oodles of cash one way or another, so what’s the problem?

It’s all getting very boring indeed.

Our Week in Games – Week 19

Our Week in Games – Week 19

After the summer drought, the inevitable tidal wave of games over the winter period has well and truly hit home. With more games than I know what to do with and more being released every week I still find myself going back to classics like Half Life. Does that say something about today’s games, or is a bit of retro gaming on everyone’s agenda from time to time? Over to The Reticule towers and we’re into week 19 of Our Week In Games, enjoy.

Our Week in Games – Week 18

Our Week in Games – Week 18

While our American chums are busy enjoying the goodness of the Wii U, us Brits are left waiting for another few weeks to have a chance of gettings our hands on Nintendo’s latest bit of hardware. If you are lucky enough to be in possession of a Wii U, I would recommend you check out Little Inferno which I wrote a little bit about here. Anyway, onto Our Week in Games here from Reticule Towers, we are in Week 18…

Our Week in Games – Week 17

Our Week in Games – Week 17

You know it is winter when a whole bunch of big games get released, which in turn means that I am now nearly broke already. I personally think that shoving so many games into this winter rush is a foolish practice as people can only afford a limited number of titles in such a short space of time. I think more AAA titles should be released in the spring and summer, if only to give people a chance to spread…

Halo Four-Ward Unto Dawn

Halo Four-Ward Unto Dawn

The release of Halo 4 marks the first time 343 Industries are in complete control of a entry into the Halo series. It will be a real test of their capabilities and a measure of the fans approval or disapproval at the change of command and creative direction. As if you needed any more cause to pick up one of the most anticipated games of the year, read on for four reasons as to why Halo 4 will be worth what you pay.

Kart Racing’s Best Line-up

While seemingly everyone in the world has been talking about the U.S, Election and the upcoming release of Halo 4, few have noticed something amazing is about to happen in the world of video games. This November, for what may be the first time ever, three kart-racing video games will be released — LittleBigPlanet Karting (9th), F1 Race Stars (16th) and Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed (16th).

Our Week in Games – Week 16

What has gone on in the world of gaming this past week? Well there was the release of some pretty big games with Assassin’s Creed III and Need for Speed: Most Wanted the stand out titles. Lily will have our review of the former in the next few days. Sadly, we probably won’t have anything on Need for Speed, but Kevin will be working on a Halo 4 review very shortly. With that, hit the jump for the latest edition of Our Week in Games here at Reticule Towers.

Our Week in Games – Week 15

Our Week in Games – Week 15

I’ve just had a quick glance at some photos from last night where I was dressed as Zombie Hulk Hogan and realised that Robert Florence is doing a wrestling show in Glasgow tonight which, when put together, makes me slightly excited for the release of WWE 13 this week. With the Attitude Era mode I am hoping it rocks a little bit more than previous titles have.

This past week has seen a lot of debate going on about an article the aforementioned Robert Florence wrote on Eurogamer. I’m not going to comment on specifics from that piece or fallout, but I would like to take this moment to clarify our position here at Reticule Towers. We are not influenced in how we judge games in our Verdicts by relationships with PRs/developers or by advertising. From here on, our Verdicts will clarify whether we bought the game ourselves or if it was supplied by a PR agency or the developer. With that out of the way, onto Our Week in Games. Before you hit the break, we will have a Halloween themed piece coming this week..spooky!

Dishonored – Our Thoughts

Dishonored – Our Thoughts

Dishonored is quite something, Chris loved it when he delivered his Verdict, but as one of the biggest titles of the year, and perhaps the biggest original IP of the year, it deserves to have more than just the one voice talking about it. After the break, you will find thoughts from a few of us here at Reticule Towers, enjoy.
