I oft find myself decrying the use of announcements of announcements, and teaser trailers for game reveals. They seem so pointless…but then there is this Far Cry 3 trailer designed to build the anticipation for the Ubisoft press conference at E3, a trailer which in itself is brilliant and underlines why I think the game is going to be an all out smash. We are told we will ‘Experience the new reveal’ at E3 next week, I hope it matches the madness on offer in this tease.
Max Payne 3 has been a long time coming, and this caused some concern for me. Given that almost a decade has passed since Max Payne 2, accompanied by a change of development team, I was initially apprehensive as to whether Max’s third outing would hold my attention in the same way as its predecessors. As it turns out, though, I needn’t have worried.
Hitman: Sniper Challenge is an innovative new pre-order bonus for Hitman: Absolution, it is its very own standalone singleplayer mini-game, and it is now available to play for anyone who has pre-ordered the game. There is a trailer after the break, but in brief, Sniper Challenge puts you in the shoes of Agent 47 with the task of eliminating a high roller and his bodyguards in a fifteen minute time frame. Leaderboards and bonus content in the final game are also promised. It is quite an innovative idea to let people play such a mini-game as a pre-order incentive, especially one this far away from the November launch of Absolution. There are two things that are immediately clear playing Ridge Racer Unbounded. The first, is that this is no ordinary Ridge Racer game. The second, is that it’s the best game in the series since the original Ridge Racer revolutionised the arcade racing genre way back in 1994.
Originally established as an October arrival, Ken Levine has stated in an official 2k press release that the highly anticipated BioShock Infinite is being pushed back until February 26th, 2013, and confirmed that the game won’t be featured at E3 or GamesCon in order to put all efforts towards development. Personally I am of course a little sad that they had to delay it, but an early announcement is a far better approach than waiting until the deadline is snapping at their heels. Can’t wait….

The bi-annual tournament release of FIFA is with us once more with UEFA EURO 2012, but unlike previous World Cup and European Championship releases from EA, this edition has been released as DLC rather than a full retail release. At a price point of £15 the big question is, is it worth it? Hit the jump for the verdict.
A demo was released the other day for DiRT: Showdown, the upcoming spin-off from the main series. Showdown is shaping up to be the arcade cousin of the DiRT titles with events like gymkhana and destruction derby at the fore. I’ve just had a little blast with the small demo on Steam, and I am not entirely sold on the concept.
EA have today announced that Crysis 3 is definitely coming and will land next year on the PC, 360 and PS3. There is no mention of a WiiU release, which is a likely indicator of the below-par performance of Nintendo’s next machine. The third game in Crytek’s series will put you in the boots of ‘Prophet’ in New York city in 2047, though as you might be able to tell from the screenshots, New York isn’t quite as it seems.
If these two big rumours surrounding the PS4 and Xbox 720 emerged yesterday, I would doubtless have ignored them as April Fool’s. Today is a new day so word about the new toys that will be coming from Sony and Microsoft need to be mentioned. Hit the jump for the details.
