The world’s largest consumer electronics show, E3, will be upon us in less than a week, and the biggest games publishers and developers will be eagerly showcasing their wares in an attempt to build up anticipation, excitement and a shed load of hype for the biggest releases set to appear over the next twelve months. This week, I’ll be highlighting what are personally my most eagerly anticipated first-party titles coming from Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft. Today? Well, it’s all on…
I oft find myself decrying the use of announcements of announcements, and teaser trailers for game reveals. They seem so pointless…but then there is this Far Cry 3 trailer designed to build the anticipation for the Ubisoft press conference at E3, a trailer which in itself is brilliant and underlines why I think the game is going to be an all out smash. We are told we will ‘Experience the new reveal’ at E3 next week, I hope it matches the madness on offer in this tease.
Far Cry 3 received a bloody good showing at E3, while it failed to match Battlefield 3 in my eyes, it received a very strong showing. Ubisoft obviously wanted to show off more and in the trailer below, you can see their alternative take on the original E3 showing.
Paradox Interactive are one of the big players in the games industry, and they had a pretty impressive this years E3. Their CEO, Fredrik Wester (the man in the image above) has a clear vision for the company, and in this interview he talks about E3, digital distribution and some upcoming titles from Paradox.
Look at a list of biggest games of E3 this year and what do you see? Elder Scrolls V, Mass Effect 3, Modern Warfare 3, Battlefield 3, Killzone 3 and Uncharted 3 to name but a few. What do they all have in common? They are, of course, sequels in long running franchises. However does this signify lack of originality or is this simply the unique behavior of the gaming industry?
E3 is the biggest event in the gaming calendar. Since 1995 it has been the place where companies show their plans for the upcoming year and make big game announcements. This years E3 has been built up to be especially important with the planned reveal of Nintendo’s new console, firm details about Sony’s new handheld device and a big question mark over what Microsoft were going to bring to the table.
Awesomenauts. Just say that again, Awesomenauts. This is apparently a Multiplayer Online Battle Arena (MOBA) that will be coming to Xbox Live Marketplace and the Playsation Network sometime later this year.

As E3 rumbles on we come to a point where the main conferences are over, yet the news keeps coming and at such a rate that to even attempt to keep track of it all is futile. There are trailers being released here, there and everywhere, new screenshots falling out of the sky, interviews appear like a plague of ants. It is information overload, and with the thousands of different magazines and websites covering the event, are you surprised?
