E3 is the biggest event in the gaming calendar. Since 1995 it has been the place where companies show their plans for the upcoming year and make big game announcements. This years E3 has been built up to be especially important with the planned reveal of Nintendo’s new console, firm details about Sony’s new handheld device and a big question mark over what Microsoft were going to bring to the table.
As E3 rumbles on we come to a point where the main conferences are over, yet the news keeps coming and at such a rate that to even attempt to keep track of it all is futile. There are trailers being released here, there and everywhere, new screenshots falling out of the sky, interviews appear like a plague of ants. It is information overload, and with the thousands of different magazines and websites covering the event, are you surprised?

This opinion piece isn’t exactly revelatory, or particularly original, but the subject is something that manages to annoy me and normally I’m as cool as a frozen cucumber when it comes to gaming stories, I generally pride myself on having a relatively developed sense of perspective.
There is a breed of games out there which tend to get ignored by the mainstream games press, they are games you probably don’t even know exist unless you are one of those who still look for PC games on the highstreet. I am talking about games like UK Truck Simulator, Demolition Company, Driving Simulator 2011, Dive to the Titanic and a whole heap of similar, very niche titles.
