Review – Ten Ton Ninja

Review – Ten Ton Ninja

Ninjas are internet royalty. At some point in the long forgotten youth of the internet the concept of a Ninja fighting a Pirate was introduced, and everyone went giddy. It’s quite refreshing to have a ninja game without pirates in, or aliens, zombies, robots or anything else. Ten Ton Ninja is a platforming/puzzle game based around ninjas and their insatiable love of gems, and there are no pirates.

Someone has only gone and interviewed Johnny Coulton!

Someone has only gone and interviewed Johnny Coulton!

Sat in our collective inbox this afternoon was a little email from the guys at “Charge Shot!!!” (I believe the three exclamation marks are necessary).  The cheeky little swines have a rather long interview with internet songster Mr Coulton, and they wanted us to spread the word.  Consider it spread guys, consider it spread.

Doom 4 to be written by someone who can write…

Doom 4 to be written by someone who can write…

… which is something the series sorely needs.  Seriously, there is only so many times Hell can mysteriously kick down the inter-dimensional doors of reality before we need to see some facts.  Generic we-hate-everything baddies were all well and good back in the 90’s, but nowadays we want some motivation for our villains, thank-you-very-much!

Review – Incognito: Episode 1

Review – Incognito: Episode 1

Thanks to Spore, any game that promises multi-genre gameplay has begun to look a little suspicious to me. The idea of creating your own species and ushering them through the evolutionary process via all my favourite type of genres appealed to me greatly, until I played it and found it to be shallow and boring. Enter Incognito, an indie episodic game that promised me all the gameplay that Spore didn’t have. The question is, however, whether they succeeded in this.

Hile to me, Adventure Gamers!

Hile to me, Adventure Gamers!

A lot of very boring people insist that adventure gaming is dead, that games like Monkey Island and Beneath a Steel Sky have come to an end in favour of ludicrous muscles and chainsaw guns. I sometimes wonder if these are the same people that insist that novels are dying out in favour of e-books. While it is true that adventure games have been suffering recently, they are still hanging on. Telltale have been doing pretty well with their…

A Dangeresque Roomisodic Adventure Game!

A Dangeresque Roomisodic Adventure Game!

I like adventure games quite a lot.  I’ve even bought some of the newer entries to the (apparently) dying genre, such as Broken Sword: Angel of Death and all the new Sam and Max games (ergh).  Amongst these sits the awesomeness that is Homestar Runner, and their rather brilliant adventure games released on a monthly schedule. SBCG4AP (as the kids are calling it) is very, very good, but it’s missing something integral to a legendary adventure game, (S)VGA graphics.  Thankfully…

Red Alert 3 Review

Red Alert 3 Review

The Soviet Union was a pretty sinister place, what with all the oppression and extra-judicial killings and whatnot. The thing is, there’s something deeply alluring about a nation who only seem to recognise the colours red and gold. It’s pretty, and that seems to be what Red Alert 3 is hanging all its hopes on.

Left 4 Dead’s art direction

Left 4 Dead’s art direction

The Left 4 Dead blog has an interesting little piece about how they designed the beautiful images of the game. As far as I’m concerned, the game would be much less awesome if it didn’t look as nice as it does.  The gameplay is excellent, sure, but it’s all the time where you are waiting to be attacked that needs the benefit of the art direction mentioned in this post.   Without compelling scenery I feel the moments of downtime…

Traveller’s Cheques – Holidaying in Fallout 3

Traveller’s Cheques – Holidaying in Fallout 3

This post may contain minor spoilers     I have always been incredibly boring when it comes to holidays. I don’t do photos. In fact, given the chance, I will avoid being in the general proximity of a camera just in case it catches my image. Most of the time, however, I can’t avoid them, so I have to make do with whining every time a photograph is taken. I tell you this because, despite my inbuilt hatred of photography,…
