The AAA News Report – Watch Dogs, Wolfenstein and More

It’s always fun to come up with random new names for news roundups, they’re the biggest challenge we here at Reticule Towers are faced with. Either that or trying to find the time in the hyper-connected world of our lives to write as much as we want.

If that introduction didn’t get you excited, why not hit the break for word on Watch Dogs, Wolfenstein and some other AAA goodness.

Watch Dogs

Oh my this is a big trailer for Watch Dogs which shows off over 9 minutes of action. Be warned, there are many buzz words and phrases such as ‘hyper-connected’, ‘connected’ and ‘hacking’. There really is a hell of a lot discussed in this trailer ranging from some of the characters in the game (quite a few) to the companion app along with discussion on multiplayer features.

The game still looks amazing, yet this trailer manages to give things a greater Grand Theft Auto taste along with the usual sprinklings of Assassin’s Creed.

What is really interesting though is the section on Game Changers around the 7 minute mark. This shows off some of the in-game apps you can download to your phone with some very amusing retro mini-games, reminiscent of the humour Ubisoft have demonstrated recently with the Blood Dragon expansion for Far Cry 3.

Talking of that series….

Far Cry 4

The news on the latest addition to the wild animal hunting simulator is a fairly boring release date confirmation, but I quite liked the link I managed to build from the Watch Dogs comments so here goes. Far Cry 4 will be landing on November 21 for PC, and the four PlayStation and Xbox machines that are currently running loose across the high street.

The new game is being developed by Ubisoft Montreal with assistance from the Red Storm, Toronto, Shanghai and Kiev studios. It is a multi-team development process that Ubisoft has been using on their AAA titles recently so it shows they mean business.

You will be exploring the Himalayas this November in a fictional area known as Kyrat. Executive Producer on the game, Dan Hay, had this to say:

“Following the success of Far Cry 3, we wanted to take the franchise to the next level and create a game that will surprise players and exceed fans’ expectations,” said Dan Hay, Executive Producer. “Given the unique setting, we feel Far Cry® 4 will stand out as a top first-person shooter and we’re eager to reveal more about the game in the coming months.

Wolfenstein

As a bit of a history buff, I should be offended by the alternative result of World War Two that is being presented in the Wolfenstein trailers. Fortunately I am also a fan of alternative history, especially around World War Two. SS-GB by Len Deighton is a prime example.

So, the alternative 1960s where the Nazi’s won the war and embarked on their deadly serious robotics campaign that has been shown off in the pre-gameplay roll in the trailers for the new game has me geeking out a bit. It doesn’t hurt that some of the one liners from BJ Blazkowicz are already sounding like classics. The game comes out on Tuesday, and I for one cannot wait.
