Bravely Default – 3DS Demo Impressions

Bravely Default – 3DS Demo Impressions

It seems like only yesterday that every potential SaGa, Mana and Vagrant Story revival at Square Enix found itself under the Final Fantasy banner in order to capture a little more marketplace enthusiasm. From the international renaming of SaGa titles in the early years through to the incongruousness of whacking Final Fantasy onto the Crystal Chronicles sub-series of action RPGs, for decades the premier JRPG company leant heavily on their most successful marque.

Hitman Absolution – The Verdict

Hitman Absolution – The Verdict

Climbing through the upper floor window I identify the target moving into a room at the end of the hall. Moving forward I dispatch the two guards ahead of me with ease and hide their bodies. Bursting through the door I’m surprised to see the target now surrounded by four body guards. None the less I take the shot killing the target and prepare to run for safety. Shots fire behind me as I start to panic. Not sure of where to turn, I run down the stairs and spot my chance to hide. Enemies who only seconds ago saw me run down the stairs, pass by me without even a thought of looking inside the small space I now occupy. Ah, cupboard my faithful friend, you may be damp and small but you have saved my life on many occasions.

The Many Faces Death: Hitman Absolution’s Disguises

The drip-drip-drip of Absolution trailers continues, like an expertly inflicted and historically questionable Chinese torture eroding your (my) armour of cynicism and doubt. The latest session reveals the many outfits the dear old mass-murdering clone can don in his bloody work.

Hitman Absolution – Introducing: Tools of the Trade Gameplay Trailer

Showing us pictures of a toilet plunger and a cup of coffee the narrator states that “Weapons are everywhere. Anything is lethal in the hands of 47”. So don’t worry if you find yourself short on bullets or missing a knife or razor wire for silent takedowns, you can always count on that brick lying on the street or the lead piping in the scrapyard. Professor Plum would be proud.

Final Fantasy XIV: An MMO Reborn

Final Fantasy XIV: An MMO Reborn

A few days ago Square Enix took the brave step to re-brand and rebuild failing MMO Final Fantasy XIV with a new tag line ‘A Realm Reborn‘. Having not tried Final Fantasy XIV before this reboot certainly peaked my interest, but with all the negative publicity already surrounding the game I don’t think it’s quite enough to make me actually pick up and play the game.

Hitman: Blood Money Free To Play(ish) in a Browser

Hitman: Blood Money Free To Play(ish) in a Browser

In an interesting turn of events, Square-Enix have today announced that Hitman: Blood Money is now free to play in a web browser using their Core Online service which is currently in beta. The catch, there always is one, is that you have to watch adverts to get free game time. Your first 10 minutes is free, then you have to view an ad to get another 10 minutes of game-time. The game runs in HD and full screen is available, the image above is from a game I just started using Chrome.

After my first 10 minutes a message informed me that I would have to choose an ad to watch to get my next session, the choice didn’t appear and I was free to carry on playing. Bizarre, but to avoid the hassle I could unlock a level for $0.49 or buy the full game, ad free for $4.99. It is an interesting idea, and the game certainly played very smoothly, but I wonder how things would play out for a newer release and what image quality people would get for the latest titles from Square-Enix. Lara Croft: The Guardian of Light is coming soon to the service and Mini Ninjas is already on it. An interesting idea from the company, it is something I will be keeping an eye on.

Visit Bloody Hong Kong! Sleeping Dogs Demo Available

Sleeping Dogs has been out for a week now and I am thoroughly enjoying it. Now you can experience a slice of Hong Kong for free with bites of kick-ass kung fu and rather more mediocre gunplay picked out from the full experience and slammed together into a demo. It is available on PC (via Steam), Xbox 360 and PS3. What more is there to say? … No, nothing. Go, play, check it out.

Final Fantasy VII PC Materia-lises

Final Fantasy VII PC Materia-lises

After weeks of rumour, speculation and more accurately the uncovering of a Google cache of website pages, today Square-Enix finally officially confirmed the existence of a PC re-release of the iconic Final Fantasy VII by officially launching the website today.

Quantum Conundrum – The Verdict

Quantum Conundrum – The Verdict

Being a small child related to a mad scientist is not easy. At least when the scientist is a recluse, you are spared the indignities of being experimented upon, of being ordered to pull the switches or feeding the unspeakable horror in the tank but when you are dropped off at your uncle’s ridiculously extensive manor, everything inevitably goes horribly wrong and of course you have to be the one to fix it. In Quantum Conundrum by Airtight Games, you…
