Battlefield 4 – The Verdict

Battlefield 4 – The Verdict

Battlefield is and should be about team based gameplay whether that be single player with AI or multiplayer with a team of friends. With that in mind it’s strange that the campaign of Battlefield 4 does such a terrible job of making you feel like part of a team.

Forced – The Verdict

Forced – The Verdict

A pair of stabbing green daggers hold the horde at bay, as a flaming hammer swings around the heads of the soon-to-be vanquished. An arrow streaks from somewhere, felling the largest of the creatures and a frost-frosted shield sparks and clangs as it hurtles between man and beast. Forced is a co-op thing of beauty, that still, somehow, manages to squeeze extreme-frisbee into this scene of battle.

I’m not even kidding.

Goodbye Deponia – The Verdict

Goodbye Deponia – The Verdict

Rufus is one of those combustible characters that try as he might, can’t help but cause chaos at the best of times. This characterisation combined with Deponia‘s off-the-wall humour has seen Rufus in quite a few predicaments throughout his adventures. It’s these moments of picturesque hilarity that mould the Deponia games from being simply funny, to hilariously memorable.

Football Manager 2014 – The Verdict

Football Manager 2014 – The Verdict

It took me a while to get into Football Manager 2014 this year, but once I did, everything fell into place. I think part of the problem was that this year the game is perhaps lacking the one stand out feature that is an easy focal point of the game.Recent seasons have seen additions like Dynamic League Reputation, the ability to add and remove leagues during a saved game and of course we saw the release last year of the Classic mode.

Grand Theft Auto V – The Verdict

Grand Theft Auto V – The Verdict

For a moment when I first met Trevor in Grand Theft Auto V I thought I was going to be really turned away from a game which, until that point, hadn’t gripped me as much as I thought it would. Instead, the game opened up to a much greater extent than I thought it would and I have really started to get into the rhythm of things. Earlier this month Kevin and I shared Our Thoughts on the game, and while I still haven’t finished it, I think I can deliver my Verdict.

The Stanley Parable – The Verdict

The Stanley Parable – The Verdict

Go away.

It’s an odd opening to a review, I admit, but I stand by my words – If you’ve come here to read about The Stanley Parable and you haven’t yet played it, go and do it now. Go and play it, then after you’ve done that, come back here and I’ll explain to you just why you should go and do what it is that you’ve just gone and done.

Heroes of Camelot: The Verdict

Heroes of Camelot: The Verdict

Grind. Any person who’s played an MMO, perhaps barring Guild Wars 2, will be intimately familiar with the concept. Some see it as a necessary mechanic to allow the learning of game mechanics and to give a reason to explore the usually huge open-world environments. Others see it as a way of padding and prolonging the experience. In truth, it depends on the game and in some cases it is entirely necessary, in others it is less so. The common denominator though is that the grind is a means to an end and not the driving force of the experience.

I wish I could say the same about Heroes of Camelot.

Train Simulator 2014 – The Verdict

Train Simulator 2014 – The Verdict

I like my simulation games and the slightly odd ball, it is why I’ve played Euro Truck Sim 2 as much as I have and even traded cards on Steam to complete my collection. Train Simulator had eluded me until the 2014 version landed. This is my Verdict.

Europa Universalis IV – The Verdict

Europa Universalis IV – The Verdict

I never thought I would find myself yearning to play more Europa Universalis but when I realise that I haven’t played it for a few weeks I find myself itching to get back to it. An Editor’s note here: this Verdict has been waiting to be published since before the Eurogamer Expo, trade shows are time-sinks just as much as Europa is.
