Our Week in Games – Week 70

Our Week in Games – Week 70

What’s happened this week in the gaming world? Oh yes, the beta for Titanfall has started, the conjecture on Twitter is that people have been going slightly mad trying to get access. Apparently some people have been buying codes on eBay for ludicrous prices. Valve took the brave step in allowing people to add tags to games which might have resulted in the expected nonsense. Meanwhile Kevin Spacey returned with House of Cards on Netflix which makes me wonder why can’t we get more games with episodic story-telling to equal The Walking Dead episodes?

Enough of that, on with the games.

Our Week in Games – Week 65

After a few weeks of special editions, we return to normal service with the 65th edition of Our Week in Games. We come to this week’s edition following news that the PlayStation 4 was the UK’s biggest selling console last year according to this report. Quite an achievement considering the limited time it has been on sale. Once you’ve digested that little fact, why not check out what our past week in games has been about.

Global Offensive is GO GO GO!

Global Offensive is GO GO GO!

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive officially left beta an hour or so ago on Steam after a lengthy beta period and it will be coming to PSN and Xbox Live tonight and tomorrow morning. Valve have released a chunk of data from the beta in a handy infographic which you can see after the break. It reveals some unsurprising data such as the two Dust maps proving to be extremely popular, and some surprising with the Arms Race and Demolition modes making up over 20% of rounds played during the beta. Valve are still working towards the release of the Map Workshop, and of course, the Zombie Mod. We will have a review with you as soon as we can.

“We think Counter-Strike: Global-Offensive is the best version of Counter-Strike”. That is the bold statement from Valve’s Chet Faliszek about the upcoming shooter which is following twelve years of history. The Counter-Strike franchise is amongst the most played series of games on the PC, Counter-Strike 1.6 and its successor, Source both regularly find themselves at the very top of the Steam stats page.

Chet Faliszek Explains Changes to Dust in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive

When I was playing Counter-Strike: Global Offensive at the Eurogamer Expo, I noticed that the map we were playing, de_Dust, had been on the receiving end of some radical changes with a new route for the Terrorist team along the underpass. I spoke to Valve’s Chet Faliszek and asked him about the changes, hit the jump for the low-down.

Counter-Strike 1.6 and Source to be supported after Global Offensive release

Counter-Strike 1.6 and Source to be supported after Global Offensive release

It is interesting to think that when Counter-Strike: Global offensive is released, there will be three games remaining active in the Counter-Strike series. With 1.6 and Source still regularly appearing at the top of the play lists on Steam stats, I thought it was important to ask Valve’s Chet Faliszek what would happen with the older titles when Global Offensive is released. He told me on the Eurogamer Expo showfloor that “We will keep supporting 1.6 with exploit fixes and…

Eurogamer Expo – Day One

So the first day of the Eurogamer Expo is over for me, I am back in my hotel waiting for my girlfriend to arrive before we have a day of sightseeing. No fear though, Michael will be at the event tomorrow to keep us up to date. Three things have caught my eye, and I want to quickly talk about them before I go into more detail over the next few days. They are OnLive, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and Battlefield…
