Project CARS Strikes Back with Official Trailer

Project CARS Strikes Back with Official Trailer

I dropped the name of Project CARS the other day when I was talking about the announcement of GRID Autosport and followed it up by having a quick blast with a BMW around Rouen-Les-Essarts where I promptly binned it in the barriers. Then, a few days later, Slightly Mad Studios released their first official trailer for the game which I have handily embedded after the break.

I appreciate it has been quite a long time since I talked about CARS, but there are a few things worth knowing.

  • CARS will be released this November on PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4
  • It will also be coming out for SteamOS
  • It isn’t coming out on PlayStation 3 or the Xbox 360
  • It is however coming on on the Wii U in what must be a boon for a console that is slowly fading from sight
  • There will be a career mode taking you from karts to touring cars via open-wheeled racers before finally arriving at Le Mans Prototypes
  • You can find further details on the open-wheel career path here

Having bashed a Beemer around a French track, I took another quick whirl with the Early Access version of the game and tried out the karts in the first-stage of the Career mode. I really didn’t have much fun with it, everything was too twitchy on my 360 pad and I even had a glitch sending my kart clipping halfway through the ground.

I did later try a classic Lotus 98T at Donnington after fiddling with the realism settings and started having some fun. The cars sound fantastic, but I’m still not entirely convinced by the handling model. I’m going to have to spend some more time with it at some point as right now, I still prefer the handling of Assetto Corsa. At the end of the day though, we are getting spoilt for choice with racing games.
