Paradox Announce Two New Games – Hearts of Iron and Norse themed RPG

Paradox have today announced two new titles from their internal development studio. Over in Miami at their Paradox Interactive Convention, the Scandinavian developers announced an eagerly expected fourth-qual, Hearts of Iron IV and an all new RPS called Runemaster. Details are slim right now, but we do have two teaser trailers after the break. They don’t show much off, but they are worth checking out.

That there is the teaser for Runemaster, an RPS with roots in Norse mythology. There is set to be six worlds from Norse myth with each new campaign based on a procedurally generated world. It promises a procedurally generated quest system and ‘rich tactical combat’. It certainly seems like procedurally generated things are the way of the future doesn’t it? Of course with the limited info so far I can’t pass judgement in any way, shape or form, but I would hope there are elements of Troll Hunter in there. That is one rousing speech from Churchill, and the video gives a hint at the broad scope of war we will experience in Hearts of Iron IV, I’m fairly sure I saw the Great Wall of China there amongst other Western theatres of war. There isn’t anything in the fact-sheet which springs to mind as all new for a game that won’t be out until 2015, but based on the recent success of Europa Universalis IV and Crusader Kings II I harbour hopes of a more involved diplomatic system which will allow a greater range of stories to develop. I have some hope, just read this quote from the official low-down.

The war is not only won on land, on the seas and in the air, but also in the laboratories, the factories, the backrooms, in international trade and in the hearts and minds of men and women.

What do we all make of these announcements then?
