First Editors Blog

Don’t worry folks, your beloved Reticule hasn’t been taken over by aliens, no, this is the new site design. We decided the cobwebs had started to take over the place and a spring clean was needed. Spring cleaner, and web designer Mike Pelletier came to the rescue and, after fighting off many spiders, he was able to create what you see now.

We felt that the old design wasn’t modern enough, so we have gone with a fancy article-twizzler which has been created to highlight three things that we think you really should check out. There is also a more striking list of recent comments so you can easily see what people are saying. Finally we have this shiny Editors Blog, a little corner of the internet where we will sit back and unwind telling tall tales and short stories. Or it will be a place for us to blather on about how awesome the site looks now.

Take in the new decor and feel free to let us know what you think on contact[at]thereticule.com

Enjoy!

  1. The new design is calmer, and much easier to read (thanks!). But it lacks something; it feels quite bland.

  2. I’m glad you like it as far as the reading goes. It’s certainly much more minimal than the previous incarnation, I wanted to go with something that has a bit of a different feel. I can certainly see how it would feel bland coming from the old design with the flashy background, but hopefully this one will grow on you. :)

  3. Never ever ever ever dare to have a black background with white letters again. I know that there are some people that prefer the black background but I can’t even read a post for more than 5 minutes without my eyes moaning in pain.

So, yeah, in other words: Awesome new design! It’s certainly more “boring” than the previous one but I prefer boring over unreadable.

Erm… sorry if I came a little strong there :P

  4. Thanks for the feedback everyone! It may feel a bit boring at the moment, but that is because we haven’t gone back through old posts yet changing them so images appear on the front page. When that happens I am sure it will look much sleeker and livelier!

  5. Definitely bland, I’m afraid. Has no energy, no sense of depth. Feels a bit like reading a .txt.

Perhaps some detailed backgrounds could enhance the ‘newspaper’ feel you seem to be going for, and would certainly fit the title, which brings to mind periodic journal titles or indeed a gaming newspaper.

Extra Extra, read all about it, only in the Daily Reticule!

    Evening Reticule?

    No, The Reticule will do.

‘Shop us up a browned newspaper background containing some satirical snippets of gaming news – a bit on DRM cutting off the left side, some rambling on Jack Thompson at the bottom, etc – as though the brighter, whiter site itself is a new paper placed on top of a pile of older issues.
