Rome II Hands Off Thoughts

Rome II Hands Off Thoughts

While Nick was busy actually playing Rome II, I wimped out. I’ve never been one to get stuck in the nitty gritty of the real-time battles in the Total War series and the fear of getting obliterated caused me to sit back and let Nick get involved. Of course, Nick got a bit blown away too. The key difference, rather than being wiped out by the army with a clear strategic advantage, had I played, I would have taken that advantage and squandered it.

Company of Heroes 2 Beta – Campaign Mission Report

Company of Heroes 2 Beta – Campaign Mission Report

I’ve been promising to get back into the Company of Heroes 2 for a few weeks now, but finally I got it updated on Steam and jumped in. There have been some changes since I last played, the most obvious being the inclusion of a Campaign mission. It is the seventh mission set in January 1943 entitled Land Bridge to Leningrad. I came away…impressed. Things seemed a lot tighter and ready than they did when I played the singleplayer demo at the Eurogamer Expo last year. To be expected really considering how long it has been since then, but it now feels much more like a complete, finished game.

Cower Brief Mortals – The Yawhg is Coming

Cower Brief Mortals – The Yawhg is Coming

In six weeks, the Yawhg will arrive.

I say arrive, but that might not be accurate. Perhaps it will instead just appear, sidle up, or simply just happen. I’m not quite sure, but all I know is that in six weeks, Yawhg will occur. Apologies for my vagueness, but that’s the rather enigmatic backstory behind Damion Summer and Emily Carroll’s The Yawhg, which will forever be enshrined in my memory as being my most misspelled game ever.

Company of Heroes 2 – Initial Battle Reports

Company of Heroes 2 – Initial Battle Reports

Wow. This game is going to be fun. As I write I’ve just had to drag myself away from playing another game of Company of Heroes 2 as I know that I will spend my whole day playing it otherwise. The pull of more wintery action is strong. I see bright things ahead for Company of Heroes 2, even just based on a couple of skirmishes battles against the AI. If you’re looking for some RTS action which isn’t full of Zerg, then this follow up to the Western Front set classic might be what you need.

Mod Spotlight – Fallout Who Vegas

“The thing is, Adam, time travel is like visiting Paris. You can’t just read the guidebook, you’ve got to throw yourself in. Eat the food, use the wrong verbs, get charged double and end up kissing complete strangers- or is that just me?”

Skylanders Swap Force Eyes Up Toy Market

Skylanders Swap Force Eyes Up Toy Market

Guest writer Andy Robertson takes a look at the upcoming third installment of the Skylanders series; Swap Force. The toy/game hybrid has seen growing popularity recently and the genre will soon expand with Disney Infinity.

Skylanders Swap Force is the third iteration in the franchise and works hard to overcome its perceived shortcomings. Not only are there new adventures for your old characters (toys) but it also adds an impressive 56 new figures. These take the form of 16 Swap Force, 16 Core, 16 Series 3 and 8 Lightcore characters.

My Most Anticipated Game Coming in March – Tiger Woods

My Most Anticipated Game Coming in March – Tiger Woods

March is most certainly shaping up to be a big month with some major games getting released with Tomb Raider, Sim City and depending on THQ-shenanigans, Metro Last Light. While these are all big games, and titles I will certainly be eager to check out, the game that I am currently most looking forward to is Tiger Woods PGA Tour 14. Bet you weren’t expecting that were you?

PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale Beta – Preview

PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale Beta – Preview

PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale has been in public beta since the 18th for all PlayStation Plus members and PlayStation Vita owners. It’s refreshing to see Sony thinking so pro-actively towards both of these neglected platforms. Especially considering PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale could be a potential game-changing game for Sony’s ailing handheld, since if you purchase the game on PS3 you will also receive it on Vita and both versions can play against one-another. But how does the beta hold up?
