Authentically Authentic Medal of Honour ‘Pulled From Rotation’

I must admit, I’ve never particularly been a fan of the Medal of Honour franchise.

Apparently I’m not the only one. Reviews of EA’s last instalment – Medal of Honour: Warfighter were disappointing across the board, with retail performance also surprisingly low for such a long-established franchise. As a result,  EA’s COO Peter Moore has announced during EA’s third quarter financial call that the Medal of Honor franchise has been taken “out of rotation”.

Despite Warfighter’s disappointingly low reviews, Moore maintained a complimentary attitude toward the franchise:

“The game was solid, but the focus on combat authenticity did not resonate with consumers.”

Many serving soldiers would perhaps disagree that regenerating health and bullet-soaking characters would constitute ‘authenticity’, and I’m not overly sure that it was the ‘combat authenticity’ that Moore’s consumers had a problem with. Nevertheless, a reduction in competition is never a good thing, even if it does mark the end of a series that has lost its way.

As a final nail in Medal of Honour’s coffin, Moore continued, stating that EA would instead be aiming for “year-over-year continuity to our shooter offerings,” hinting strongly at a cookie-cutter future for their Battlefield series.
