The Reticule (Not At) E3 – Nintendo Video Blowout

The Reticule (Not At) E3 – Nintendo Video Blowout

We might not be over in Los Angeles enjoying the E3 high-life, meeting and greeting or playing millions of unreleased games…instead we are here at Reticule Towers deciding to occasionally throw out a morsel of E3 goodness to our baying masses whenever we find something worth talking about. Or we are simply going to embed a bunch of trailers of games we find interesting before sharing some thoughts towards the end of the week.

Hopefully that explains what this is, so hit the jump for some Nintendo goodies.

Editor’s Blog – Nintendo Returning To Form With The Wii U?

Editor’s Blog – Nintendo Returning To Form With The Wii U?

It has been a rough 18 months for Nintendo when it comes to the Wii U. Despite critical acclaim for titles like Super Mario 3D World and The Wonderful 101, sales of the machine have been more than sluggish with a user base that has stubbornly refused to grow. Some doom-mongers even feel that it will be the worst performing Nintendo machine since the GameCube. It certainly won’t be matching the dramatic highs of the Wii while the next-gen machines from Sony and Microsoft have enjoyed very successful launch periods.

Recent events show that all might not be lost for the Wii U, while it won’t ever see extraordinary sales figures, it might reach a respectable level. And of course, with E3 kicking off later today, Nintendo might pull something special out of the bag. Even if they don’t, I think we might see the Wii U establish itself a bit more this year.

Scram Kitty – The Verdict

Scram Kitty – The Verdict

Scram Kitty and his Buddy on Rails to give the game its full title is a devilishly difficult game, somewhat fitting in with the trend of my recent gaming habits of Dark Souls II and the less well received, Wargame: Red Dragon. What makes Scram Kitty stand apart from Wargame is that you know how to play the game, the reasons for failure are simply down to your own mistakes. Failure, you better get used to it.

Our Week in Games – Week 66

Our Week in Games – Week 66

I think the big news from the past week was the realisation of just how weak the Wii U has been performing at retail. Nintendo slashed the sales forecast of the machine drastically from 9 million to 2.8 million for this financial year. It is a sad turn of events, but not one that should be all that surprising. Not many people outside of the core gaming base fully understood what the Wii U offered, and the release of superlative titles like Super Mario 3D World seem to have done little to convince people to invest in the machine. In truth, I only purchased mine because I was able to get it for pennies after trading in my massive back catalogue of console games. At full price I was never going to realistically buy it.

Enough doom and gloom from Nintendo, what have we been up to this past week?

Super Mario 3D World – The Verdict

Super Mario 3D World – The Verdict

Mario Mario Mario, ahh Mario. How long has the plumber with the moustache been plying his trade now? It is many a moon, but personally I have made very few trips into his world with Super Mario 3D World on the Wii U my first visit since Super Mario Galaxy. What have I made of his latest adventure I hear you ask, well hit the jump and you can find out.

Our Week in Games – Week 64

Our Week in Games – Week 64

We are half way through the launches of the new consoles with just the UK release of the PlayStation 4 to come. We’ve spent the last few weeks talking about the fifth birthday of The Reticule and our past generation in games. I hope you enjoyed those two articles. While today is a normal edition of Our Week in Games, as we enter December next week, we will start to take a look at Our Year in Games. For now, hit the break and enjoy.

Editor’s Blog – Chris on the Console Generations

The next generation of consoles is here at last, well at least it is the US with the PlayStation 4 going on sale yesterday. Over the next few weeks, us lucky Brits will see Sony’s machine and the Xbox One from Microsoft launch. I was in Game in Cardiff a few nights past and saw the new look shelves heralding the imminent arrival of the new machines.

It made me think about the generation which is now the old-gen. The humble Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 are but things of a bygone era now. In reality they will still be fairly important to gamers and the industry for a year or so yet as people wait for the inevitable price cuts or a wider range of titles to launch.

Super Mario 3D World – I Need Mario in My Life

Super Mario 3D World – I Need Mario in My Life

I’ve decided that I need to get some Mario back in my life having watched six minutes of action from Super Mario 3D World. Yes, I am talking about something which isn’t coming to the PC or a machine from Sony or Microsoft. The trailer released by Nintendo earlier this week has been on my list of things to watch and I am happy I’ve taken the time to watch it.
