A few weeks ago at EGX, I was able to check out Mantis Burn Racing from VooFoo Studios. A top-down arcade racer, it immediately caught my attention on my first day at the show and I’ve been throwing my tiny cars around on the PlayStation 4 since launch. This is my Verdict.
Distance is a game that frustrates me, not because I don’t like it or because it’s not a good game, but because I’m just not skilled enough to play it and therein lies the biggest problem I have with what should be a really enjoyable and fast paced arcade style racer.
Friend of The Reticule Craig Lager recently challenged myself, Steve and another Friend of The Reticule, Mike Jennings to a Assetto Corsa Hot Lap Challenge. The mission? Complete a lap of Imola in a McLaren 12C GT3 as fast as possible.
Craig set the benchmark at 1:48:350 using a full wheel and peddle setup, then I took my turn. Check out how I did after the break.
Wow. Wow, wow, wow. That about sums up what I thought when I booted up Mario Kart 8 for the first time. This, this is a top-quality game that any self-respecting gamer should own. Go, go buy a Wii U now and play this!
Maybe I should try and explain? I guess that is what this Verdict is for…
Not many racing games tempt me into racing with a manual transmission, fewer still tempt me into racing on one of the highest realism settings and only use the cockpit view. The Early Access version of Assetto Corsa which is on Steam right now is the game which has done those things for me.
