Mod Spotlight – The Kerbin Shuttle Orbiter

Mod Spotlight – The Kerbin Shuttle Orbiter

What goes up, must come down. In addition to being a universally accepted truth, this statement has always been an accurate description of my Kerbal Space Program shuttle missions. Try as I might to reproduce NASA’s success, anything I make with wings generally has a life expectancy of under a minute before violently exploding, flipping over, spinning out of control or all of the above.

Our Week In Games – Week 42

Our Week In Games – Week 42

It’s another one of those ‘busy weekends’ for the denizens of Reticule Towers, which generally seem to involve a lot of wrestling and potentially even more alcohol. As a result, you’re stuck with just little old me for this week’s Our Week In Games, but nevertheless, feel free to put your feet up and grab yourself a cup of tea as I tell the tale of one of the last men to walk the earth.

Mod Spotlight – All of them

Mod Spotlight – All of them

Every few weeks I’ll come across a mod that sparks my interest. Whether it’s for a game I’m currently playing or something I haven’t booted up in several years, it doesn’t matter – within minutes of stumbling across something fascinating, I’ll have downloaded it and be playing the game with as much excitement as the day I first bought it.

Mod Spotlight – Fallout Who Vegas

“The thing is, Adam, time travel is like visiting Paris. You can’t just read the guidebook, you’ve got to throw yourself in. Eat the food, use the wrong verbs, get charged double and end up kissing complete strangers- or is that just me?”

A Game of Thrones Meets Football Manager – Making Progress

A Game of Thrones Meets Football Manager – Making Progress

This is the second part of my journey into making a Game of Thrones based custom database for Football Manager 2013 (part one is here). It might be a bit of a monster job trying to re-create just a small portion of George R. R. Martin’s world within the game, but it is a challenge I am determined to meet, despite being a bit of a novice when it comes to using the Football Manager editor. In this part of my journey, I make some big progress with the league structure in Westeros, the land that used to known as Wales.

Mod Spotlight – The Stanley Parable

Mod Spotlight – The Stanley Parable

This is a story about a man named Nick. Every week, Nick accesses the Reticule’s WordPress account and thinks about what he’s going to write. After sitting there blankly for a few hours, hoping in vain that some words will appear on the page in front of him, he generally gives up and goes to make a coffee. About five cups later, some words would generally emerge, at which point Nick will post them on the Reticule for the world to…

Dear Esther – Very Reasonably Priced And New Trailer

Dear Esther – Very Reasonably Priced And New Trailer

Somehow, I haven’t yet played Dear Esther even though it is possibly one of the best game mods to have been released in recent year. What started out life as a mod for the Source engine has evolved into being just a few weeks away from a full independent release through Steam while also being nominated for four awards at this years IGF awards including the Seumas McNally Grand Prize. The price of the game has been confirmed at a…

Half-Life: Dreamcast – Mod Release

Half-Life: Dreamcast – Mod Release

Half-Life: Dreamcast – PC Port Trailer – Mod DB

We don’t often look at the modding scene here at Reticule towers, but when something as obscure as a Half-Life: Dreamcast mod shows up as just being released, my attention is most certainly caught. The mod, developed by three man team of Revenant100, Barnz and Besli turns Gearbox Software’s unreleased Dreamcast version of the PC classic into a playable version on the PC. Tiberian Dawn – The Mod

Tiberian Dawn – The Mod

We may not talk about mods too much here on The Reticule, but every once in a while one comes along and really captures your imagination. Tiberian Dawn is one such mod.

I can’t wait for… Hegemony 268BC for Mount and Blade

I can’t wait for… Hegemony 268BC for Mount and Blade

Mount and Blade has one of the least interesting settings in gaming. It’s a generic pseudo-Medieval world with no soul. But the game mechanics and superlative modding capabilities it affords are uniquely well suited to bringing to life historical warfare, and for me this is no more evident in the mod Hegemony 268BC, set during the middle Roman Republic, or Hellenistic period. It’s an ancient historian’s wet dream, allowing you to take command of Republican Roman legions, the steamroller style…
