UEFA EURO 2012 – The Verdict

UEFA EURO 2012 – The Verdict

The bi-annual tournament release of FIFA is with us once more with UEFA EURO 2012, but unlike previous World Cup and European Championship releases from EA, this edition has been released as DLC rather than a full retail release. At a price point of £15 the big question is, is it worth it? Hit the jump for the verdict.

DiRT Showdown Demo Thoughts

DiRT Showdown Demo Thoughts

A demo was released the other day for DiRT: Showdown, the upcoming spin-off from the main series. Showdown is shaping up to be the arcade cousin of the DiRT titles with events like gymkhana and destruction derby at the fore. I’ve just had a little blast with the small demo on Steam, and I am not entirely sold on the concept.

The Witcher 2 – (Nearly) A Year On

The Witcher 2 – (Nearly) A Year On

The Witcher 2 has been out on the PC for nearly a year now (May 17th 2011 was the release date) and the game has come a long way since the initial release with big updates coming in September last year with the 2.0 release and last week the Enhanced Edition was released at the same time as the very well received Xbox 360 version. When I originally played The Witcher 2 at release last year, I was impressed by what the game was attempting, but I was left aghast at the difficulty of the Prologue and a poor hints and tips system which left me unsure how to use traps and bombs and little understanding of the different spells Geralt can cast. Nearly a year on and my experience of the first few hours is now much more enjoyable. Early game spoilers after the jump.

Crysis 3 Announced – Release 2013

Crysis 3 Announced – Release 2013

EA have today announced that Crysis 3 is definitely coming and will land next year on the PC, 360 and PS3. There is no mention of a WiiU release, which is a likely indicator of the below-par performance of Nintendo’s next machine. The third game in Crytek’s series will put you in the boots of ‘Prophet’ in New York city in 2047, though as you might be able to tell from the screenshots, New York isn’t quite as it seems.

The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings Enhanced Edition – The Verdict

The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings Enhanced Edition – The Verdict

Geralt of Rivia, the White Wolf, is a Witcher. Witchers are warriors who possess magic powers and superior abilities due to being taken in as children and given potions and martial training for most of their young lives. This special training can cause adverse side affects and sometimes even death, the result of this is that only 40% of children survive the final trial and go on to become Witchers. Once fully trained Witchers use their unique abilities to make…

Rumour Control – PS4 and Xbox 720 Details Emerging

Rumour Control – PS4 and Xbox 720 Details Emerging

If these two big rumours surrounding the PS4 and Xbox 720 emerged yesterday, I would doubtless have ignored them as April Fool’s. Today is a new day so word about the new toys that will be coming from Sony and Microsoft need to be mentioned. Hit the jump for the details.

Dishonored – New Screens Galore

Dishonored – New Screens Galore

A host of new screen have been released today showing off Arkane Studios’ Dishonored, a title which I’ve been quietly keeping tabs on since I saw the first concept art emerge last year. The game is set in an industrial whaling city with a mix of high technology and mysticism known as Dunwall. You will play as a supernatural assassin in Dishonored and there is promised to be a very flexible combat system which will allow you to mix stealth, supernatural powers and brute force to achieve your goals.

The world has been created by Half-Life 2 art director Viktor Antonov, and the visual similarities with City 17 are subtle but noticeable. I also get a sense of inspiration from Fable III in some of the screen shots, maybe that is just me though. Hit the jump for all the images, and click on them to see them in all their full size glory.

Mass Effect 3 – The Verdict

Mass Effect 3 – The Verdict

The first choice for me was one of great importance. It could mean the difference between life and death, the destruction of a whole civilisation or the lives of my crew members. At least that’s how important it felt. The decision of course was whether I wanted to keep the original Shepard on the front cover of my Mass Effect 3 box or flip over to the rather sleek looking reversible FemShep cover on the other side. I may come…

Mass Effect 3 – Our Thoughts

Mass Effect 3 – Our Thoughts

Even though planning your latest IP as a trilogy has been a fashionable thing to do during this console generation, Mass Effect 3 is a game that has truly been anticipated by some for the best part of half a decade. Despite of the needlessly late release of Mass Effect 3, many of the team have spent this weekend picking up where they left off, with the characters and choices they’ve carried forward from the two preceding games. Here are their thoughts and first…
