Deus Ex: The Fall Makes A Leap To PC

Deus Ex: The Fall Makes A Leap To PC

Following its release last July on iOS and Android devices, Deus Ex: The Fall will launch on PC via Steam this March. The new version will receive a host of additions such as updated AI, an improved tutorial, Steam achievements and badges and improved graphics optimisation. Microtransactions, which are present in the iOS/Android versions, have also been removed for the PC version.

Deus Ex: The Fall will release on March 25th 2014. As a bonus anyone who pre-orders the game will also receive a free copy of the original Deus Ex: Game of the Year Edition, which I recommend to anyone who is into old school action/shooters and can handle the now ancient graphics.

Unfortunately one thing they have yet to update is the trailer, so here’s last years launch trailer instead.

Heroes of Camelot: The Verdict

Heroes of Camelot: The Verdict

Grind. Any person who’s played an MMO, perhaps barring Guild Wars 2, will be intimately familiar with the concept. Some see it as a necessary mechanic to allow the learning of game mechanics and to give a reason to explore the usually huge open-world environments. Others see it as a way of padding and prolonging the experience. In truth, it depends on the game and in some cases it is entirely necessary, in others it is less so. The common denominator though is that the grind is a means to an end and not the driving force of the experience.

I wish I could say the same about Heroes of Camelot.

Career mode in Fifa 14 has been revamped. Additions include a Global Scouting Network through most countries, which allows hiring a scout to search for talent all season from various clubs globally. The Career Mode hub navigation has also been redesigned, with fewer interruptions and live scouting reports. Managers are now able to develop, build and refine their network of scouts, gathering details on the attributes and traits of players. This way of playing Career Mode also moves away from the concept of player overall rating as an on-demand metric of a player’s abilities. Instead, communication with scouts determines what type of player is wished.

Deus Ex: The Fall Cascades Onto iOS Devices Today

Deus Ex: The Fall Cascades Onto iOS Devices Today

Deux Ex: The Fall is the fourth game in the Deus Ex series, the first of which has been released exclusively for iOS devices today. Set in 2027 the game follows a new protagonist Ben Saxon who was a former member of the British SAS and an augmented mercenary.

The story is a direct follow up of the book Deus Ex: Icarus Effect, which in turn tied in with 2011’s Deus Ex: Human Revolution, expect to see recurring characters and story themes. As the video below will show you, the gameplay looks startlingly similar to that of Human Revolution and it’s a wonder to me why the developers have chosen not to release this on consoles.

Deus Ex: The fall is available from the app store right now priced at £4.99

Wales Games Development Show Report

Wales Games Development Show Report

If there is one lesson I am going to take away from attending Rezzed on the weekend and the Wales Games Development Show today, it is that I desperately need to get myself a business card. My wallet was bulging with them by the end of the show which was capped off with a keynote speech from Ian Livingstone and the first BAFTA Cymru game awards. It was an enjoyable day with plenty of indie games on offer, even though I only actually got around half of the titles on show. Report after the break.

Jane Wilde – The Verdict

Jane Wilde – The Verdict

Jane Wilde, developed by LevelBit, is a free-to-play side scrolling shooter recently released for Android phones. The main aim of the game is to survive each mini section whilst completing goals and collecting money to upgrade your arsenal of weapons.

Each level is incredibly linear offering no exploration but in turn offers a decent variety of enemies and weapons to deal with them. Gameplay starts off at a rather dreamy pace and is incredibly easy. This picks up in the later stages when you encounter all the types of enemies and have the weapon power capable of dealing with them. However, getting to the later stages may seem like a bit of a drag to anyone who plays the game for extended periods of time as the gameplay is largely the same sequence of mowing down enemy after enemy with a variety of weapons until you encounter a boss.

The progression system in Jane Wilde is fittingly simplistic for a casual mobile game. Each round supplies you with coins which you use to buy ammo, weapons and damage upgrades. You can also collect bonus ammo and health as random drops during play but these vanish if not picked up quickly. Mobility is often an issue when dealing with multiple enemies on screen and I have lost countless drops due to the slow character movement. The gameplay would benefit from a roll button for extra mobility during the hectic moments when drops are a plenty and enemies even more so. A manual reload button would also benefit the game as often the enemies appear in waves and being stuck between waves with only one bullet in the chamber is rather annoying.

Jane Wilde Andriod iOS LevelBit Review Mobile Game

Jane Wilde has the right mix of gameplay I would expect from a mobile game. The controls are very easy to get to grips with, the gameplay is fast paced in the later stages and gameplay is fluid and enjoyable if taken in small chunks. It offers a survival mode, achievements, power-ups and plenty of enemy types and great looking graphics but even after all of this it feels as if something is missing. Replay value is almost non-existent as each level is essentially the same left to right movement with a different sequence of enemies and occasionally a different back drop. The objectives for each level are only made apparent after you complete it and offer no bonuses to your upgrades or otherwise. Quite often deaths are due to the fact that your character lacks mobility and a manual reload button.

As far as value for money goes, you can’t go wrong with a free-to-play game like Jane Wilde and if mowing down endless lines of undead creatures sounds like your kind of bag then you have nothing to lose here.

Players accomplish this by replaying a memory and modifying details to change the target’s recollection of the outcome. Another key mechanic of gameplay is stealing memories from specific targets and using points called Remembranes to replay the memory in real-time: this is often needed to proceed through the game or avoid hazards otherwise hidden from the player.

One such improvements is the new line-of-sight technology, TrueSight,[9] which aims to better emulate troop visibility in real combat. In contrast with traditional unit visibility, TrueSight more accurately represents a unit’s visibility range based on environmental conditions and type of unit. Essence 3.0 will also incorporate an innovative weather-simulating technology known as ColdTech and destructible environments.
