There’s a pleasant little surprise in the gaming world today as Kunos Simulazioni have unveiled Assetto Corsa Competizione, their new racer that will be the official game of the Blancpain GT series. Coming to Early Access this summer, you can expect a focus on e-sports in a game paying homage to one of the best racing series in the world.
I entirely failed to find a good screenshot of my last Assetto Corsa Hot Lap Challenge, so I decided to grab the above nice pic from the developers. It is a pretty game for sure, and while it might not quite have the stunning visuals that Project CARS has, I much prefer the racing in Corsa.
There has been a lot of nastiness going around the web this past week, and sadly I’m not just talking about the real issues affecting the world at the moment. You see, there are some elements of the gaming community who prefer to spend their time attacking journalists and developers rather than paying attention to issues such as the Islamic State’s horrendous actions in Iraq and Syria or the militarization of the police in Ferguson over in the US.
Those people who think it is fair to attack developers and journalists on any level need to wake up and take stock of what really matters.
I think that is about enough of that unpleasant business, so on with Our Week in Games.
Friend of The Reticule Craig Lager recently challenged myself, Steve and another Friend of The Reticule, Mike Jennings to a Assetto Corsa Hot Lap Challenge. The mission? Complete a lap of Imola in a McLaren 12C GT3 as fast as possible.
Craig set the benchmark at 1:48:350 using a full wheel and peddle setup, then I took my turn. Check out how I did after the break.
I get the feeling there was a bit of a ‘Games Journalism Twitter Scandal’ in the past week. They seem to come two-a-penny these days and it is safe to say that me and tech journo Mike Jennings are fed up of them. The most recent event entirely passed me by, but who knows, maybe this one was serious. I doubt it was a match for Dorito-gate from a couple of years ago though.
The big gaming news from the past week was the release of the Shadow of Mordor trailer (see it after the break) which showed plenty of Orc killing and lots of comparisons to Assassin’s Creed and Batman. My take? It looks like a fun romp through the world created by Tolkien. Count me as interested.
Not many racing games tempt me into racing with a manual transmission, fewer still tempt me into racing on one of the highest realism settings and only use the cockpit view. The Early Access version of Assetto Corsa which is on Steam right now is the game which has done those things for me.
