Our Week in Games – Week 36

Our Week in Games – Week 36

I would just like the take a moment to think about all the awful things which have gone on this week. The Boston bombings and associated events, the fertiliser plant explosion and earthquakes in Iran and China. When such things are occurring, it makes me think that the numerous complaints about minor problems with games are just so petty. Regardless, this is Our Week in Games, check out what we have been playing.

Bang! Crash! Wallop! No, I’m not watching some classic Batman, rather I managed to caused a bit of damage to my car this past week in a multistory car park. I had been planning on getting back into Project CARS this week, but the emotional trauma has been too much. I will say that my mood was lifted when reading our What We Thought on BioShock Infinite. More Xbox rumours also emerged over the past week. I’m holding back from…

Is it summer? Not quite, but it has been a glorious few days here in Cardiff and I for one welcome our sunny overlord called…The Sun! The bright nice weather makes me think of Far Cry 3 and BioShock Infinite, two recent games that have made better use of colour and light than many others have. But if you are sitting indoors on this Sunday afternoon, why not pass some time by checking out the latest Our Week in Games.

When you read this, all being well I will be celebrating Easter by watching sweaty grown men grapple in the squared-circle. I am talking about a bit of wrestling with top notch UK company, Progress Wrestling. If you are into wrestling at all, I implore you to check this company out. Anyway, GDC has come and gone, Journey won some IGF awards, Epic showed off their new engine, Battlefield 4 was shown off and I’m sure there was some other stuff. My feeling from what I have seen is that indie games are still rocking and rolling and proving to be more interesting experiences in the large part than AAA games. Apart from BioShock Infinite which launched this week and is pretty decent. As it is Easter, grab yourself an egg and read about Our Week in Games.

Our Week In Games – Week 32

So, another seven days have passed here at Reticule Towers. It’s been a busy week all round, so only Chris and I have managed to contribute to this weeks Our Week In Games. Nevertheless, here’s what we’ve both been up to this week.

With all this news of next-generation consoles, features they will include and exclusive games it seems I’m still living in the past however. By far the most exciting piece of news for me this week was that Age of Empires II will be receiving an HD update exclusively for Steam. While the graphical update is minimal and not really all that it important, it will be featuring mod support and easy access to multiplayer gaming which is a big improvement. I could easily see this becoming my most played game of the year. Move over League of Legends, you’re not laughing any more.

Tombs and Cities are the theme amongst gamers this week with the release of Tomb Raider and SimCity dominating proceedings, with EA’s city builder being the star of the show for all the wrong reasons. I’ve not personally had any issues with it so far, but I know that lots of people have, please let us know your thoughts on the game, the server issues and EA’s response in the comments.

There is something else I want to briefly touch on, and it is another issue away from SimCity which has been cropping up on my Twitter feed this week, and that the topic of AdBlock and other ad-blocking extensions in your web browser. There are two blogs I would recommend everyone read about this issue, the first is from indie developer CY Reid and the other is on Destructoid. Again, I would like to know what people think about ads, ad-blockers and the ads we run here on The Reticule, leave us a comment, Tweet us, leave a comment on Facebook or even email us. Enough serious business, on with the games.

Our Week in Games – Week 26

After my absence last week (thanks to a 17 hour day at work) I am back here at Reticule Towers for another edition of Our Week in Games. There are a lot of rumours circulating now about the upcoming new consoles from Sony and Microsoft, with the former expected to reveal details of their next machine on the 20th of the month. The week ahead sees the release of Aliens: Colonial Marines and doubtless there will be more videos released for other big titles coming soon like BioShock and Tomb Raider. I meanwhile will probably spend the forthcoming week working on the project I started last week. Hit the jump for football management and a Roman history lesson from Nick.

Chris is off this week putting the world to rights. As a result, I get the honour of ushering in yet another week of gaming here at Reticule towers. This week, I’ve been healing the sick in Surgeon Simulator 2013, Edcrab’s confusingly travelled back in time to the dystopian future of the original Deus Ex, and Kevin’s been exploring pastures new and old in Path of Exile and Mass Effect.

The snow has nearly gone, and thanks to the joys of scheduling posts, as you read the latest edition of Our Week in Games, I will be in London watching some wrestling. I’m not sure when I will next see a wrestling game come out though as during the THQ sale, 2K Games bought the rights to the WWE licence. We’ll have to wait and see what happens with that, but the good news is that Sega bought up Relic which means we should still get Warhammer 40K titles and Company of Heroes 2. Hit the jump to see what we have been playing this week.
