This weekend has been dominated by two Armstrong’s, Lance and Neil. The former is embroiled in a doping controversy surrounding his Tour de France victories which makes any drug related puns in Pro Cycling Manager pieces even more glaring. The other was the first human to step foot on the Moon, the only otherworldly body we have walked on. Gamescom has been and gone, but perhaps the biggest news of the past week broke yesterday with the closure of OnLive. It doesn’t come as much of a surprise to me as I never really got the feeling the service was going to make it by itself, and without the backing of a console manufacturer it was doomed to fail. A new company seems to have been formed, but time will tell what really happens with the cloud gaming service. The Olympics is ending today and the football season is about to kick-off once more, I don’t know who is actually looking forward to the football now, it has become relegated so with the Olympics. I have had a busy week full of job applications and have barely looked at my stack of games. Word has reached me here in Cardiff that there is a big sporting event taking place in London right now, but this week none of us here at The Reticule have been playing anything resembling Summer Games. E3 is nearly upon us, and while we aren’t over there in the States, we will be doing what we can to keep up to date with the biggest news from the event. This is a bit of a personal year in review, not just a run down of individual games which have come out this year. We will do something along the lines of a Game of the Year, this isn’t that though. This is a low-down on happenings here on The Reticule over the past year, and some of my personal highlights.

I have long pondered the role of review scores, do people like them? If so, do they like scores out of 5 or 10, maybe a rating out of 100? What about An A-F scale, or perhaps something a bit more off the wall like ours?. Or finally, do people not bother with the actual rating and make do with the words of the review?
