Monster Truck Destruction – The Verdict

Monster Truck Destruction – The Verdict

It’s odd. A monster truck is a hulking piece of machinery. Tonnes of supercharged destruction guided by the deft control of an ace driver. Driving one must feel like you have the keys to controlling a giant. Unfortunately Monster Truck Destruction never quite captures that sense of awesome power. It’s a shame too, as there are moments that it proves to be quite an enjoyable game, if only for short lived periods.

Grand Theft Auto V – The Verdict

Grand Theft Auto V – The Verdict

For a moment when I first met Trevor in Grand Theft Auto V I thought I was going to be really turned away from a game which, until that point, hadn’t gripped me as much as I thought it would. Instead, the game opened up to a much greater extent than I thought it would and I have really started to get into the rhythm of things. Earlier this month Kevin and I shared Our Thoughts on the game, and while I still haven’t finished it, I think I can deliver my Verdict.

The Stanley Parable – The Verdict

The Stanley Parable – The Verdict

Go away.

It’s an odd opening to a review, I admit, but I stand by my words – If you’ve come here to read about The Stanley Parable and you haven’t yet played it, go and do it now. Go and play it, then after you’ve done that, come back here and I’ll explain to you just why you should go and do what it is that you’ve just gone and done.

Heroes of Camelot: The Verdict

Heroes of Camelot: The Verdict

Grind. Any person who’s played an MMO, perhaps barring Guild Wars 2, will be intimately familiar with the concept. Some see it as a necessary mechanic to allow the learning of game mechanics and to give a reason to explore the usually huge open-world environments. Others see it as a way of padding and prolonging the experience. In truth, it depends on the game and in some cases it is entirely necessary, in others it is less so. The common denominator though is that the grind is a means to an end and not the driving force of the experience.

I wish I could say the same about Heroes of Camelot.

Train Simulator 2014 – The Verdict

Train Simulator 2014 – The Verdict

I like my simulation games and the slightly odd ball, it is why I’ve played Euro Truck Sim 2 as much as I have and even traded cards on Steam to complete my collection. Train Simulator had eluded me until the 2014 version landed. This is my Verdict.

Europa Universalis IV – The Verdict

Europa Universalis IV – The Verdict

I never thought I would find myself yearning to play more Europa Universalis but when I realise that I haven’t played it for a few weeks I find myself itching to get back to it. An Editor’s note here: this Verdict has been waiting to be published since before the Eurogamer Expo, trade shows are time-sinks just as much as Europa is.

The Inner World – The Verdict

The Inner World – The Verdict

In a universe made entirely of mud, something is afoot.

Surrounded by the dirt of the universe, the realm of Asposia lies. It is an inverted world whose people live in the hollow sphere formed where mud isn’t. Sealed inside this tiny bubble, the people are kept supplied with air by three great wind-holes, whose ever-blowing gales they rely on for life’s precious oxygen are beginning to dwindle. What will happen when the final remaining wind stops? Nobody knows, but they’re guessing it’s not going to be good. Not only that, there’s also the Basylians to worry about, great serpent-like beings that are preying upon the Asposians and turning them to stone.

Total War: Rome II – The Verdict

Total War: Rome II – The Verdict

I have fond memories of the Total War series, I spent many an hour playing the original Rome and the two Medieval titles. Empire was interesting, but I was never able to sink my teeth into it like I would have liked. The Shogun title meanwhile never really stuck with me, I just don’t have the interest in the history or the understanding of the culture to really invest. Rome II then is a welcome return to the time periods which initially got my attention.

Sir, You are Being Hunted: The Preview

Sir, You are Being Hunted: The Preview

I’ve recently been scampering around the hunting grounds in the upcoming PC game; Sir, You are Being Hunted. The game is currently in early-alpha and I’ve had chance to sink a few hours into it to give you lucky people my initial impressions.

Everything about this game is quintessentially English. From the predominantly fen-like rural setting, to the fact that a flask of tea will almost fully heal you. It instantly feels comfortable, like a pair of old slippers. In front of a fire. With a border collie.

Dishonored: The Brigmore Witches – The Verdict

Dishonored: The Brigmore Witches – The Verdict

The tale of Corvo and Daud that started in the opening act of Dishonored with the murder of the Empress comes to a close in The Brigmore Witches. The tale that has been told has been one of my favourite gaming experiences of recent years, and the world one of the richest. This is my Verdict on the last piece of DLC, The Brigmore Witches.
