NPC Spotlight: Meet The Ferryman

NPC Spotlight: Meet The Ferryman

With Halloween swiftly approaching, I’d like to take a moment to salute one of the most memorable non-playable characters of my childhood. A figure so firm in his convictions that even the game defines him as an object instead of a person. On the shores of Ultima VII’s Misty Channel, there stands a ferry station shrouded in a mysterious fog. Aboard the rickety wooden ferry a sole figure waits with an eternal patience, his only duty in life to shuttle…

Our Week in Games – Week 14

Our Week in Games – Week 14

I’ve been pondering today about how this year seems to have gone by oh so fast, and then I realise that this is already the fourteenth edition of Our Week in Games. Where has the time gone I wonder? Maybe someone flipped a switch and sent us back in time to the days of the Mega Drive and turn based strategy games? I think Edcrab and Jordan had something to do with it…

The Reticule at Play Expo

The Reticule at Play Expo

Gamers — it’s a word flung about by many to try and group everyone who plays games under one banner, but how can one word describe such a vast variety of people? There are people who play games to relax, those who play professionally, those who cherish the arcades and those who will only play the latest releases. Each radically different from one another, but each one a gamer. Play Expo, the newest videogame expo, attempts to please as many…

Our Week in Games – Week 13

Our Week in Games – Week 13

The majority of us here at Reticule Towers (disclaimer: we have no towers) have been playing Dishonored like there is no other game on the planet. Well, apart from Nick who has been exploring the universe of Star Trek: Online. As the odd one out, we start with Nick, then we have some Dishonored thoughts.

What Does ‘Next-Gen’ Gaming Mean To You?

What Does ‘Next-Gen’ Gaming Mean To You?

‘Next-Gen’ is a term that’s being thrown around quite loosely at the moment. Everything from next-gen consoles, to next-gen graphics and next-gen gaming accessories are hot topics of discussion and speculation right now. But forget hype, advertisement and what developers are saying. What does next-gen really mean to the gamers of this generation? What advancements and improvements would they like to see in the next instalment of consoles and PC’s to hit the market? These are the very questions I asked myself, my friends and the writers and followers of The Reticule.

Our Week in Games – Week 12

Our Week in Games – Week 12

What is worse than coming down with a post-Eurogamer Expo cold? Having a killer hangover. That was how I felt this morning, and it is only now that I feel a tiny bit alive. Thanks go out to Nick for covering the column last week. This week we have some words from Edcrab about classic title StarTopia, hit the jump for Week 12 of Our Week in Games here at The Reticule.

The Final Eurogamer Expo Roundup

The Final Eurogamer Expo Roundup

The Expo is over and now comes the busy task of writing up a bunch of hands-on impressions and previews. First though I want to take a final look back at the event, what was good about it, what was bad, what they could do with improving on and most important, my games of the event.

Eurogamer Expo – Day 4 Roundup

Eurogamer Expo – Day 4 Roundup

To roundup Day 4 I need to go back a little bit to Day 3 and a little trip I took after my writing yesterday’s edition of the Roundup. I went to a smart pub around Piccadily Circus for the “Indie Game Meetup” which was a place where a bunch of indie developers were able to show off their wares with other indie gaming fans. Hit the jump for a brief report on that, and my Day 4 roundup.

Our Week In Games – Week 11

Our Week In Games – Week 11

Merry Sunday everybody, it’s Nick here. With Chris no doubt dining on Ferrero Rocher and Buck’s fizz over at Eurogamer,  I’ve been left with the privilege of introducing this week’s Our Week In Games. This week has been an FTL heavy week, with both Ed and Mike dying amidst the stars. It’s  a remarkable game that’s been absorbing the time of pretty much everyone here at the Reticule. If you haven’t had a chance to experience it yet, its recent release…

Eurogamer Expo – Day 3 Roundup

Eurogamer Expo – Day 3 Roundup
